In this season, I find myself having more questions than answers and on Wednesday, 21 May 2025, one of the questions was answered through Mark 6:20. It is amazing how God reveals and exposes certain things in our lives through His Word. I have lived long enough to understand and witness that sometimes people do not respect you as a person but will respect your position or authority. However, when the undeniable presence of the Mighty God is upon you, it is a completely different experience because even those who belittled you can see the compelling evidence of His presence in your life. As you read the account of king Herod and his controversial wife, please zoom in on his reaction towards John the Baptist.
“14 Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.” 15 Others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
16 But when Herod heard, he said, “This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!” 17 For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her. 18 Because John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19 Therefore, Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not; 20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.” Mark 6:14-20 NKJV
When you speak the truth and walk in righteousness, your life is completely different from a compromiser. Let me take it deeper, when your life is devoted to Christ and the Holy Spirit is your comforter, the Word of God becomes your baseline and standard of righteousness because the love of God drives you to holiness. Subsequently, enjoy the blessings listed in Deuteronomy 28:1-4. “Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you.” Deuteronomy 28:10 NKJV. Therefore, when people laugh at you because you have chosen the path of righteousness in Christ and have devoted your life to worshiping Him in Spirit and in truth. I am here to tell you today not to be ashamed but instead rejoice in the Lord for the great things He has done in your life, as He has given you victory over sin and blessed you with self-control. Even those who are mocking you, deep inside, they know the truth as they can see the compelling evidence, which is the undeniable presence of the Mighty God in your life. Therefore, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” Philippians 4:4 NKJV
